Forward an email as an attachment
in 1&1 / IONOS Mail

1&1 or IONOS email in the browser

⚠️ Only possible via a workaround
Why "as an attachment"? This is the only way the invisible technical headers of the original email are preserved. I need exactly those to reliably verify the sender and authenticity. Regular forwarding loses this data.
Note: 1&1 / IONOS webmail doesn't offer a direct "forward as attachment". If the download option is missing, set up the mailbox in Thunderbird.

Step by step

  1. 1 Open the suspicious email in 1&1 / IONOS webmail.
  2. 2 Click the More menu β‹― in the top right and choose "Download email" or "Save as .eml".
  3. 3 Write a new, empty email to spam-check-en@moin-moin.it.
  4. 4 Attach the saved .eml file and send it.
πŸ’‘ Tip: It's more convenient with Thunderbird: set up your IONOS mailbox there for free via IMAP and forward the email directly as an attachment.

Doesn't work? You can also forward the suspicious email normally – the analysis will then be less conclusive, since I'm missing the technical headers. I therefore always recommend forwarding as an attachment whenever possible.
