Forward an email as an attachment
in Mozilla Thunderbird
Thunderbird (Windows, Linux & macOS)
β Directly possible
Why "as an attachment"? This is the only way the invisible technical headers of the original email are preserved. I need exactly those to reliably verify the sender and authenticity. Regular forwarding loses this data.
Step by step
- 1 Select the suspicious email in the list with one click.
- 2 Right-click the email.
- 3 Choose "Forward As" β "Attachment". (Alternatively via the menu: "Message" β "Forward As" β "Attachment".)
-
4
A new email opens with the original message as an
.emlattachment. -

π‘ Tip: Thunderbird looks practically identical on Windows, Linux and macOS β this guide applies to all three.
Forwarding address

You'll receive an automatic assessment shortly after. Β· My terms of use apply. terms of use (DE)
Doesn't work? You can also forward the suspicious email normally β the analysis will then be less conclusive, since I'm missing the technical headers. I therefore always recommend forwarding as an attachment whenever possible.
