Forward an email as an attachment
in Mozilla Thunderbird

Thunderbird (Windows, Linux & macOS)

βœ“ Directly possible
Why "as an attachment"? This is the only way the invisible technical headers of the original email are preserved. I need exactly those to reliably verify the sender and authenticity. Regular forwarding loses this data.

Step by step

  1. 1 Select the suspicious email in the list with one click.
  2. 2 Right-click the email.
  3. 3 Choose "Forward As" β†’ "Attachment". (Alternatively via the menu: "Message" β†’ "Forward As" β†’ "Attachment".)
  4. 4 A new email opens with the original message as an .eml attachment.
  5. 5 Enter spam-check-en@moin-moin.it as the recipient and send it.
πŸ’‘ Tip: Thunderbird looks practically identical on Windows, Linux and macOS – this guide applies to all three.

Doesn't work? You can also forward the suspicious email normally – the analysis will then be less conclusive, since I'm missing the technical headers. I therefore always recommend forwarding as an attachment whenever possible.
